Osteoarthritis Diet

Osteoarthritis is affected by diet. So patient should eat a healthy balanced diet and keep the body weight according to age and height.

Obesity is the main reason for developing the osteoarthritis. Overweight people may reduce the probability for aggravating or developing the disease by losing weight.

People with low bone mineral density may at high risk of getting the disease. Patients should take adequate calcium and do regularly exercise. They can help to maintain bone mineral density.

Recently, there have been studies conducted in the United States and in Europe that the food supplements such as glucosamine and chondroitin may help to reduce the symptoms of the disease such as stiffness and joint pain. Patients can take these arthritis supplements alone or in combination formulations.

Vitamin C is very necessary in the progress of normal cartilage. A deficiency of vitamin C may lead to the associate of weak cartilage. Citrus fruits are the main source of vitamin C. it is advisable that take arthritis supplementation with a vitamin C tablet, in case of unavailable dietary fruits.

A deficiency of vitamin D may increase the risk of joint space narrowing and development of osteoarthritis. Vitamin D supplementation of 400IU will be recommended by the most of health care providers.

Diet therapy  

  • Dairy products, nightshade plants and wheat, including peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, tobacco, tobacco and peppers are the main causes of developing the disease of osteoarthritis.
  • Patient should eat a raw food vegetarian diet. They must decrease the consumption of all animal products except fish.
  • Patients should include avocado, spirulina, wheat grass products, pecans, carrots, sea weeds, barley, sprouts, whole grains ( such as millet, wheat, brown rice, barley and oats), cold-water fish (such as sardines, tuna, salmon and herring), soy products and seeds ( such as flax, pumpkin and sesame) in their diet.
  • Decrease the body weight through exercise and diet, is preferred by the doctor to treat the osteoarthritis.
  • Periodic supervised fasting may help to reduce the symptoms of osteoarthritis. Fasting cleansing capacity of the skin, kidneys, lungs and liver. It helps to relax the mind and the nervous system and restores the digestive system.

Patients must avoid the following foods:

  • Coffee
  • Saturated fat
  • Large quantity of salt
  • Plums
  • Nuts
  • Alcohol
  • Sugar
  • Hydrogenated fat
  • Buckwheat
  • Spinach
  • Cranberries
